Dr. Jason Derenick is CTO at Exyn Technologies, where he designs and executes the company’s technology roadmap.  Over the past four years, he has built and lead the team behind Exyn’s Advanced Autonomy Aerial Robot (A3R), a fully autonomous aerial platform for advanced data acquisition in digitally-starved environments.  Its development and successful adoption by mining industry partners was instrumental in securing Exyn’s recent $16 million USD Series A.

Prior to joining Exyn, Dr. Derenick was employed by United Technologies Corporation (2011-2015) where he served a major role in pioneering the software behind Matrix Technology – Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation’s autonomous system solution for vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft.  His development and successful demonstration of an online safe landing area determination and ranking system led to him being awarded UTC’s 2013 George Mead Medallion, which represents the corporation’s highest recognition for individual achievement in engineering and science.

Dr. Derenick currently holds nine patents with an additional three pending in the area of autonomous systems and has been published in a variety of refereed technical forums including those of the IEEE.

He served as a post-doctoral research fellow under Professor Vijay Kumar (2009-2011) in the GRASP Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania.  He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science (2009) and M.S. (2005) from Lehigh University.
